We're moving in a week!

Our trip to DC was a success!

We stayed in Baltimore and Cody got to hear me sing "Good Morning Baltimore" from the musical Hairspray everyday. What a lucky guy:)  Before we left we had set up a couple of appointments to see apartments and continued to send emails once we were there. I have to admit I was kind of terrified. I had never looked for an apartment this way and with only 3 full days to do it. (By the way, it was snowing when we arrived and I was so excited because it's been at least four years since I've seen snow like that.)

The first apartment we saw was okay. Nice apartment but the neighborhood didn't seem that great. But I loved the woman who showed the apartment. Colleen was so genuine and nice, I kind of wanted to rent it just to make her happy, so it was our backup plan. If we didn't find anything else, we would live there. The second place we looked at was horrible. The man who showed us the apartment was gross. He was too tan and wore bad cologne and was incredibly fake and I knew immediately I was never going to live there.

While we were driving around on Tuesday, I was checking craiglist.com on my phone, just in case any new apartments were being listed. A new one came up that looked promising (an English basement apartment in a row house) and I sent the guy an email. While we were waiting to hear back we drove to the address to check out the neighborhood. We parked around the corner from the house and that's when I received a response from him. I called him and told him we were in the neighborhood and he showed us the apartment. He was super nice and lived in the house with his wife and 10 year old daughter. We said we would think about it and walked around the neighborhood a little. We discussed the pros and cons on our 10 minute walk, called him back, and then brought the deposit later that day and we had an apartment! I was shocked how quickly it all happened. Cody remarked how that would have never happened that fast and that easy without the technology we have. I love my iPhone! Here's a pic of the house. You can see the top of our door and a window at the bottom of the house:

So now, that we had a place to live, we got to be tourists! We didn't get to see a whole lot of DC, but what we did see was really pretty. We went to the Natural History and American History museums and we saw the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the White House. We saw parts of the neighborhoods of Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill, Georgetown, and our new neighborhood, Mount Pleasant. I can't wait to explore our new city. So many adventures to be had!

First stop in DC. A cozy restaurant and snow!

We left DC on Friday, the 13th and boy, did we feel it. Cody didn't have his paper ticket that they sent him and had to buy another returning ticket, our first plane had issues so we had to board another one, which made us miss our connecting flight, so we had a 5 hour layover in Atlanta, and when we finally reached New Orleans, my car wouldn't start and had to be towed. But at least we kept our senses of humor (we may have almost lost them, but we held on tight).

Since we've returned to New Orleans, we've been packing and getting everything in order for the move, and spending time with family and friends.

At Kevin's for Heidi's birthday

Cody and Dad at Sucre

At Capdeville for Garrett's birthday

Mother/Daughter day in Nola
Breakfast at Surrey's, movie at Prytania, beignets at Cafe du Monde, and drinks at The Columns

So, we have exactly a week left before the move. Today, was my last day as a waitress and that feels incredible. We'll pack for the next few days and the movers come on Friday! We're headed to Gonzales after that and then leave for DC on Tuesday. I can't believe it's so soon. So, before I start crying into my keyboard, I'll say goodbye for now.

Hello 2012!

Happy New Year Everyone!

It's been a super busy holiday season around here. Cody was in Spokane for Christmas and had a wonderful time with his family (I should have bugged him to take pictures so we could share them).  I spent a lovely Christmas with my family in Gonzales. On Christmas Eve, my mom made a shrimp gumbo and we opened presents. We spent Christmas day at Ryan and Heidi's house with the Rossi tribe. Here are some pics:

Ryan got big boy underwear!

One of the presents I got to stay warm in DC. Thanks Heidi!

Jackson's reaction to this was priceless

When Cody came back from Spokane, we had our own Christmas at my house. My favorite gifts that we gave each other are the ones that we made. I made him a art piece, where I decoupaged pages from a math book onto a canvas and then painted a quote from his favorite author/physicist on top...

...and he made me Marcel!!! (pictured on top of the Mindy Kaling book he gave me. Which is hilarious, by the way)

I never go out for New Year's Eve. Never. I just don't like it and I don't think I ever will. Too much pressure to have this amazing night that always disappoints because people hype it up too much. Also, I love the idea of fresh starts and new beginnings and who wants to start the first day of the new year with a hangover?? Not me. So Cody and I spent a nice evening in Gonzales with my family. We had a delicious dinner at Mike Anderson's with Mom and Dad and MaMaw. Then we bought lots of fireworks and popped them in my parents backyard (Cody had never popped fireworks before!! It was fun to watch him). There was also marshmallow roasting and then Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve. A perfect New Year's Eve night, if you ask me.

Since the holidays, I've been working a lot and we've been preparing for the big move. I have to go pack now, because we're leaving for DC in the morning! We have a couple of appointments to look at apartments and lots of leads. We are so excited...and nervous and a little stressed out. See y'all in a week! xoxo
